Course Overview
This 1 hour course on oral care will look at the effects of poor oral hygiene on the body, common oral conditions, how to examine someone’s mouth and how to brush teeth and dentures correctly.
This 1 hour tutor led course is delivered online using Microsoft Teams. The course instructors are experienced clinical skills tutors based at Torbay Hospital and will be able to answer any questions you have relating to oral care that arise during the session.

This session is designed for health and care professionals working for care providers in the community- i.e. domiciliary care, supported living and residential care homes.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be able to:
- Understanding of the effects of poor hygiene.
- How to examine the mouth.
- How to brush the teeth and dentures.
- Knowledge of common oral conditions.
Course Instructors
Louise Heafield
Clinical Skills Lead
Louise is a Clinical Skills Facilitator in the Education department of Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. She has a Nursing degree (BN) and has been a registered nurse since 1993, with the NMC. Louise has the AET teaching qualification and other certificates to validate experience.
Dianne Flores
Clinical Skills Facilitator
Dianne is a Clinical Skills Facilitator in the Education department of Torbay & South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and has been a registered nurse with the NMC since 2019. She has spent many years as a neonatal nurse and the last 2 years in the Emergency Department.
