Course overview

This 3 hour course will provide the knowledge and skills you need to deliver potentially life-saving care. The course is delivered by experienced members of the Resuscitation Service based at Torbay Hospital.

This is a hands on course with a 1 hour practical assessment at Torbay Hospitals Education Centre with our Resuscitation Officers. Here, you will be asked to perform basic life support on a manakin, using the skills learnt in the session, to the standard required by the Resuscitation Council UK.

After a successful assessment by our Resuscitation Officers the successful candidate will receive a NHS, RCUK accredited 1yr certificate (electronic).

Who is this course suitable for?

The course has been designed for health and care professionals working in clinical and non-clinical settings however, can be tailored to any Organisations requirements.

Course objectives

Upon the successful completion of this course, you’ll be able to:

  • Raise the alarm.
  • Perform Basic Life Support in accordance with current Resuscitation Council UK guidelines.
  • Perform basic management of the airway using head tilt/chin lift and equipment (i.e. pocket mask where appropriate).
  • Use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
  • Understand management of a choking person in accordance with current Resuscitation Council UK.
